NBIA CLINICAL CENTERS
are a place where NBIA families can visit medical professionals familiar with NBIA disorders, possibly participate in clinical trials, have access to potential treatments, and participate in the international NBIA patient registry and biobank.
•Presently, there are NBIA clinical centers in Germany, Italy, Poland, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada.
•There are also many associated centers around the world. These centers are located in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Serbia, Spain and the United Kingdom
The Canadian NBIA Clinical Center is led by Dr. Sunita Venkateswaran, an Assistant Professor in the Division of Neurology at the Children’s Hospital for Eastern Ontario. Dr. Venkateswaran has specialized clinical and research interests in pediatric demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis and childhood leukodystrophies. She is a co-investigator for the Canadian Pediatric Demyelinating Disease Network and a member of the International Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis Study Group. She is developing national treatment guidelines for pediatric multiple sclerosis. Her medical educational pursuits include the development of an annual multicenter pediatric neurology educational retreat and OSCE in addition to the inception of a nationwide standardized pediatric neurology written examination.
